In functie de fumul pe care doriti sa il obtineti, puteti scufunda bucatile de lemn in apa timp de cel putin 20 de minute; apoi adaugati-le peste carbunele incandescent. Pot fi utilizate in gratare cu carbune si, de asemenea, in cele cu gaz sau electrice; in ultimele doua folosind un fumator sau plasandu-le pe o tava de aluminiu perforata anterior. Recomandat pentru afumare: pui, vaca, porc, miel, curcan, carne de vanat si legume.
